The Lawrence County Democratic Party held a meet and greet dinner in Loretto this past Saturday, giving local candidates a chance to speak to voters ahead of the start of early voting. Early voting will start July 18th and end August 2nd. Election day will be on August 7th.

County Executive J. Mack Chandler is shown presenting a $500 check to George Casteel with the Mars Hill Community Club for the Solid Waste Recycling Program.  Mar Hill collected 7,560 pounds of recycling and came in first place.  Chandler stated he appreciates the Community Clubs and their efforts in the Clean-Up Program.  This is a benefit to our county and the Community Clubs and helps keep it clean.

Emergency workers have retrieved the body of a young boy who drowned after falling into Knob Creek Saturday evening.

Heavy rains caused widespread flooding Thursday as storms swept through the area, resulting in the death of one local resident.

The front of the building fell across Main Street and struck a Jeep Wrangler that happened to be owned by the building’s owner, Richard Rohling.  Nobody was injured and the remainder of the building was knocked down to prevent a second collapse.  It is unclear as to what actually caused the collapse.  According to tax records, the build was constructed in 1930.  It had not been used as a business for several decades, but had been used for storage.  It is unknown if anything was stored it the building at the time of the collapse. .
